September 17, 2016 - Essex Skypark Wings & Wheels Fly-In |
Today was my home airport's world famous Essex Skypark Wings & Wheels fly-in. Like last year, we were again fortunate to have great weather. And another very successful event. The Essex Skypark pilots park their planes out in front of the community building.
A lot of planes flew in this year. These planes were parked on the west side of the runway.
And there were also planes parked on the east side.
Show cars were also on hand.
Including Bruce's 1965 Boss Mustang which we drove over in.
Looking down a taxiway toward the runway.
Three helicopters also flew in.
Live music, no less!
Dan W. slips a Luscombe down the length of the runway. Impressive flying.
"Riggo" does a runway inspection pass, with smoke.
Nice looking Stinson takes off.
The renovation of the maintenance hangar is now complete. In the last few years, it got a new roof, a new back wall, new electric, a new electric hangar door, a paint job on the side walls, a new floor, and most recently, courtesy of Surface Tech Inc., a new floor coating.
The WBAL TV helicopter put on a show.
Vans Aircraft Company's east coast representative, Chip Lock, was on hand with his RV-14. Chip was my mentor during the building of my RV-7.
Chip takes off in the RV-14 to head back home to St. Mary's Airport.
We have some unusual pilots at Essex Skypark.
As always, Chip was flying his Stearman: Double Trouble.
I haven't seen this RV-6 around here before.
Richard S. was on hand in his RV-8.
Brian flew over in his RV-8 from Clearview.
Riggo displaying the RV grin.
I liked the paint scheme on this little Cessna 150. I learned to fly in one of these.
A 1956 Twin Piper PA-23 with vintage paint scheme.
A Rans ultralight for some low and slow.
Paul C. has flown off the 40 hours on his Super Cub and is having a lot of fun with it.
Another look from astern. Paul went with the "low observable" paint scheme.
And of course I must have a shot of Bruce's recently restored RV-3 with the colorful paint job.
There are now two Sky Cams based at Essex Skypark. They both get flown a lot.
There is also an Aircoupe based at the Skypark now.
